Pre-Care Instructions
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Avoid consuming alcohol for 1 to 2 weeks before surgery.
Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin. Do not wear contact lenses. Arrange for transportation to and from our office.
Post-Care Instructions
Follow Dr. Hunsicker’s recommendation for pain relief, which may include prescribed pain medication.
Gently clean the incision. Use sterile gauze pads and gently dab any discharge.
No heavy lifting for six weeks, limit reading, working on a computer, watching TV, or activities that may cause eye strain for 1 to 3 days.
The best candidates for eyelid surgery are healthy adults who do not smoke. Most of our patients are over 35 and desire a more youthful and alert appearance. You may need to check with your optometrist before Dr. Hunsicker can perform your eyelid surgery.
After blepharoplasty, we will apply a lubricating ointment to the eyes to protect them and prevent dryness. The ointment may cause temporary blurred vision. Patients may notice redness around the incision. Your eyelids may look puffy and feel numb for several days. It is common to experience some swelling and bruising for the first 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. You can manage these symptoms with prescription pain medication or Tylenol. If Dr. Hunsicker uses stitches, we’ll remove them after 3 to 4 days.
Yes, an eyelid lift complements many of our other surgeries and treatments. During your consultation, Dr. Hunsicker can determine what other services/procedures are compatible with this surgery. She will equip you with the knowledge to select the best procedures to reach your goals.
