About Mommy Makeovers

A mommy makeover is a comprehensive approach to body contouring that addresses the areas that pregnancy affects most.

Being a mother is one of life’s greatest joys, but the lasting, physical changes of pregnancy can detract from the excitement. Your breasts may appear deflated, fat can accumulate around various parts of your body, and your skin may hang down, no matter what lifestyle changes you make. With a mommy makeover, you can address each of your concerns within one appointment, allowing you to reclaim control over your appearance.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover if you are unable to address the lasting, physical changes of pregnancy and wish to restore a more defined figure that aligns with your pre-pregnancy silhouette. You may also benefit from this procedure if you are interested in recontouring several regions of the body at once, as candidacy is not exclusive to mothers.

To undergo this procedure, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. You should no longer have any plans to breastfeed and have completed planning your family, as future pregnancies can undo your results. It is also important that you are a non-smoker or willing to quit using nicotine. Dr. Hunsicker will assess your candidacy during your consultation.

Personal Consultation

The first step to transforming your figure is attending a personal consultation with Dr. Hunsicker. During this meeting, she will ask about your medical history, personal concerns, and ideal aesthetic, and perform a physical examination to assess your anatomy and skin quality.

Dr. Hunsicker will use this information to help you create a treatment plan fully unique to you. She will decide upon the most effective combination of procedures and explain each one as she selects them. She will then schedule an additional pre-operative appointment that will take place two weeks before your procedure.

If you are ready to schedule this consultation, please contact us online or call (720) 283-2500.

Preparation

Once you have scheduled your procedure, you will need to make certain preparations before treatment. To help, Dr. Hunsicker will provide you with a set of detailed instructions that may direct you to:

  • Modify Your Medication Intake: Discontinue taking any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
  • Request Time Away: Prepare to take a step away from your personal, social, and professional responsibilities and commitments.
  • Arrange a Ride Home: Have a trusted friend or relative transport you home after your procedure.
  • Fill Your Prescriptions: Pick up any medications you may need for your recovery ahead of time.
  • Cease Any Substance Use: Refrain from consuming any alcohol or nicotine in the weeks leading up to your procedure.

She will also ask you to attend a pre-operative appointment two weeks before your mommy makeover. Here, she will confirm your treatment plan, discuss your post-operative instructions with you, and explain what you can expect from your procedure. She will also provide you with a surgical package, which will include a Hibiclens surgical scrub, scar cream, probiotics, and other essential products to support your recovery.

Available Procedures

Breast Augmentation

One of the regions that pregnancy most impacts is the breasts, with many new mothers experiencing concerns such as asymmetry or volume loss. To address these, Dr. Hunsicker can perform breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation enhances the size, shape, volume, and symmetry of your breasts. Dr. Hunsicker can place either silicone or saline implants, both of which can produce natural-looking results while still offering their own benefits. (1) She may also use liposuction techniques to take fat from other areas of the body, such as your thighs or abdomen, and transfer it to the breasts to provide more subtle yet still profound results.

Breast Lift

A breast lift elevates the position of the breasts on the chest wall to improve the firmness of your breasts and create a more shapely appearance without altering their volume. Dr. Hunsicker can perform this procedure to address sagging and deflation, as well as malpositioned or downward-pointed nipples. (2)

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and tissue from the breasts to reduce their weight and restore a more proportionate-looking figure. (3) Dr. Hunsicker can perform this procedure to alleviate any chronic pain or irritation deriving from the enlargement that may have occurred during your pregnancy.

Implant Revision

Dr. Hunsicker can perform a breast implant revision if your pregnancy has affected the appearance of your implants and you now wish to either remove or replace them. She can walk you through choosing a pair of implants that suit your new aesthetic goals, and she will use the same incision location to avoid creating any new scars.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that can address stubborn deposits of fat around various regions of the body. (4) Dr. Hunsicker uses a form of ultrasonic liposuction called LiposSelection by VASER®. This technology reduces the extent and length of your recovery, allowing you to return to your routine more quickly than before.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can create a flatter and smoother stomach by removing excess skin and tightening any weakened abdominal or pelvic floor muscles. (5) Dr. Hunsicker can perform this procedure to address any loose or hanging skin while also addressing diastasis recti, a separation of abdominal muscles at the midline that usually results from pregnancy.

In certain cases, she can also combine your tummy tuck with a hernia repair or hysterectomy to address each concern you have across your abdominal region. Hernia repair procedures can address the development of a hernia, which occurs when internal tissues or organs push through a weakened spot within the muscle. They can occur as a result of muscle degeneration, increased abdominal pressure, and more. (6) A hysterectomy is a procedure that removes the uterus through the abdominal wall to address several gynecological conditions and concerns, including endometriosis, malignant diseases, pelvic pain, recurrent infections, or abdominal uterine bleeding. (7)

Labiaplasty

If your pregnancy has left you with either aesthetic or functional concerns regarding your vagina, Dr. Hunsicker can perform a labiaplasty to address them. A labiaplasty is a procedure that can improve the size, shape, appearance, and comfort of the labia minora, or the inner vaginal lips. (8) This procedure can address concerns such as asymmetry or discoloration, as well as alleviate any physical irritation or hygiene concerns.

Recovery

After your procedure, you will experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness. These effects will subside on their own with time, but you may also manage them with prescription medications and plenty of rest. You will also need to wear a compression garment, which will prevent additional swelling and maintain your new contours as your tissues settle and heal.

You can return to most of your daily activities after resting for approximately two to three weeks. However, you will need to avoid strenuous or demanding activities until Dr. Hunsicker clears you to return. She will also ask you to avoid additional activities, such as submerging your incisions in water, stretching, or bending.

Dr. Hunsicker will give you a full set of postoperative instructions before your procedure so you know what to expect. By following each one, you can ensure a quick return to your routine.

Results

You will be able to enjoy the full results of your mommy makeover after a full recovery. Your exact results will vary, but you can expect to enjoy more sculpted and shapely breasts, a flatter stomach, a more defined figure, and improved proportions. Each of these effects can elevate your sense of self-confidence and body positivity, allowing you to live your life more freely.
