Male Breast Reduction In Littleton, CO

Male breast reduction, also called gynecomastia surgery, is actually quite common. Occurring in one or both breasts, gynecomastia is characterized by an unusually large amount of breast tissue in men. Although gynecomastia has been linked to certain medications, use of marijuana, and medical problems, there is no known definitive cause for the condition. For men who have larger breasts and feel self-conscious about their appearance, male breast reduction can remove fat and/or glandular tissue, leaving the chest flatter and better contoured.

Our Technique

This procedure is an outpatient surgery traditionally performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia, taking anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. The technique used can vary depending on whether your enlarged breasts have more fat tissue or glandular tissue. In many cases, Dr. Hunsicker and Dr. Nguyen can perform the surgery using LipoSelection by Vaser, which can reduce the incision and eventual scarring. This technique is best when there is more fat tissue. If you have more glandular tissue, it will have to be surgically removed through a small incision near the edge of the areola (darker skin around the nipple).

FAQ

After surgery, you may experience some swelling and bruising for a week or two, and you may need some pain medication in the first few days. You will need to wear a surgical garment for about 3 weeks. You should expect to have lifting and physical activity restrictions for 4-6 weeks.

Gynecomastia is characterized by excess localized fat and excess glandular tissue on one or both breasts.

The cause of gynecomastia is not known. The condition has been linked to drug use, impaired liver function, estrogen-containing medications, low testosterone, and other factors related to hormone imbalance.

Men considering this procedure should be healthy non-smokers who have reached a stable body weight and stable point of breast development. Male breast reduction is appropriate when symptoms of gynecomastia cannot be resolved through alternative medical treatments.
