Pre-Care Instructions
We highly recommend that patients quit smoking before surgery. Smoking can hinder your recovery and increase the risk of complications.
Drink plenty of water before your surgery. The night before your surgery, do not eat or drink after midnight.
Post-Care Instructions
Wear the provided compression garment as instructed. Take prescribed pain medication as directed by Dr. Hunsicker. Avoid taking NSAIDs.
Keep your incision dry and clean to prevent infection.
Do not engage in strenuous activity. Keep your head elevated while sleeping to reduce swelling.
Dr. Hunsicker will thoroughly cleanse the face and neck before administering local anesthesia. In many cases, she enhances the procedure with Renuvion Skin Tightening to address mild skin laxity alongside fat removal. She will make small incisions on each side of the jaw or just below the chin, then inject a tumescent solution into the fat to prepare it for removal.
Using suction, she will remove fat located just beneath the skin and above the platysma muscle. Since this area contains no major blood vessels or nerves, fat removal is safe. A small tube called a cannula helps vacuum the fat from the targeted areas, including the neck, lower chin, and jawline, while Renuvion works to gently contract the surrounding skin for a smoother, firmer appearance.
Most patients experience a relatively short recovery time with this procedure. During the first 24 hours, your neck will be wrapped in gauze. You can expect any swelling to last about 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.
We will provide a special compression garment to help control swelling and encourage the skin to contract. You’ll need to wear this for about 2 weeks. Many patients wear turtlenecks or scarves during this time for added comfort and coverage.
You can shower 48 hours after surgery. However, you should avoid getting the incisions wet during the first 48 hours. After that, gently wash the incision sites with soap and water, following Dr. Hunsicker’s recommendations.
Make sure to pat the area dry—do not rub it! Carefully follow all aftercare instructions to minimize the risk of complications.
