Pre-Care Instructions
Focus on maintaining a nutrient-rich diet. We provide a green smoothie recipe to help prepare your body for surgery. Be sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your procedure.
Prepare your home for recovery. Have a designated rest spot with pillows and cushions. Plan for someone to help you around the house with certain tasks and activities.
Post-Care Instructions
Arrange for transportation to and from your surgery and the next day for your follow-up. Our numbing medicine can last up to 3 days. Contact Dr. Hunsicker immediately if you experience bleeding, nausea, or vomiting.
Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, or putting strain on your abdominal muscles. Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, baths, or submerging your body in water.
Give yourself plenty of time to heal and take time off work as needed. Take any prescribed medications as directed. Keep up with your follow-up visits to help Dr. Hunsicker monitor your progress.
Although it is one of the most extensive types of plastic surgery, we can now conduct it on an outpatient basis. Dr. Hunsicker places an incision above the pubic area that extends between the hip bones.
She will make a second incision around the belly button, then separate the skin up to the ribs. Dr. Hunsicker will stitch the abdominal muscles back into place and remove excess fat from under the skin flap.
Once she pulls the skin flap down, she will reposition the belly button to trim off excess skin. She will insert tubes into the incisions to drain excess fluid. Typically, the incisions are sealed using a combination of internal sutures (that dissolve on their own) and Dermabond (a surgical “super-glue”) on the skin surface. This combination helps minimize scarring.
A good candidate typically meets the following criteria:
- Physical health: A tummy tuck patient should be in good physical health, at a stable weight, and with a BMI less than 30%.
- Aesthetic goals: A tummy tuck patient has excess skin and fat in the abdominal area that they are looking to correct.
- Lifestyle: A tummy tuck patient should maintain a relatively healthy lifestyle and be a nonsmoker.
Our tummy tuck in Littleton, CO can take 2-5 hours depending on the size of the tummy being treated.
